OFFICIAL STEIN HOISTING RULES
1. Equipment Specifications
• The Stein: Must be an official 1-liter dimpled glass stein
• Total Weight: Approximately 5 lbs when filled to the 1-liter line with liquid.
• No Aids: No grip powders, pine tar, chalk, or gloves are allowed.
2. Proper Grip
• Handle Grip: The stein must be gripped completely by the handle in a firm fist.
• Thumb Position: The thumb must rest against your other fingers on the side of the handle. It cannot rest on top of the handle rim.
• Pinky Finger: Can remain outside the handle, but it may only touch the handle—never the body of the glass stein.
• Orientation: The front of the stein (opposite the handle) must face directly away from the competitor.
3. Arm & Body Position
• Straight Arm: The holding arm must extend completely straight out from the shoulder with zero bending at the elbow.
• Parallel to Ground: The arm must remain parallel to the ground (90° angle relative to the body).
• Body Separation: The holding arm must remain separated from the chest and torso. The chest may not be used as a structural shelf.
• Off-Hand: The free hand must remain firmly at the competitor’s side or behind their back. It cannot touch or support the holding arm.
• No Excessive Leaning: Small posture shifts are fine, but extreme leaning back or forward is forbidden. The elbow cannot cross behind the ankle line.
4. Faults & Disqualification
• Immediate DQ (Spilling): Any amount of beer spilling, dripping, or sloshing over the rim results in immediate elimination.
• Immediate DQ (Dropping/Switching): Setting the stein down or switching hands results in an immediate loss.
• Form Infractions: Minor posture or arm deviations typically receive a 3-strike warning system from the judge before disqualification.
